NEWLY promoted Wilmslow Sports rocketed to the top of the ADAFL’s Division One after an emphatic 5-1 win over Old Alts on the opening day of the new campaign. Joining the league leaders straight out of the starting blocks were the league champions AFC Quarry, Kartel Sports, Sale Town, Salford AFC and Atlantic FC as not a single draw was recorded across the division’s six matches. A goal either side of half time for striker Danny Emmett and one for the debutant Dave Lawson gave Quarry a 3-1 victory over Sale Rovers while Kartel’s Andy Richardson acted as first half provider, setting up Nicky Scott’s opener, and then second half goalscorer, to guide his side to a 2-0 win at Knutsford FC. In the three other matches played, Sale Town came out 3-6 winners at Heatonmoor Phoenix to occupy second spot, Salford picked up a 0-2 victory on their visit to Sale Amateurs and Atlantic edged out Old York 06 2-3 to pick up three valuable away points.

Meanwhile in Division Two it was also a case of win or bust as none of the matches ended in stalemate. Broadheath Central FC and Sale Town Reserves top the league table by virtue of their two goal winning margins over Ashton Park FC (3-1) and Sale United (1-3) respectively, however, both are closely followed by the quartet of Broadheath Central JFC, Conway Rangers, Cornishman United and Styal FC all of whom won by a single goal. Broadheath Juniors scored the only goal of the game against the hosting Baroni FC while Conway, Cornishman and Styal all secured 3-2 victories on their home patches against Unicorn Athletic, Egerton FC and Northenden Victoria correspondingly.
