Cricket - Hale Barns v Ashley

1:54pm Tuesday 7th September 2010

Hale Barns 192-6 Ashley 92 all out Hale Barns win by 100 runs ASHLEY visited Hale Barns and asked their hosts to bat first after winning the toss on a warm sunny day. The innings started slowly with 2 early wickets but Mike Hunter and Peter Stubbs soon got into their stride and started to increase the scoring rate putting on 83 runs in 20 overs. Peter Stubbs was given out LBW for a brisk 37 but Alex Robinson continued to increase the run rate putting on 44 in 5 overs until he was bowled for a run a ball 24 in the 39th over with the score on 163. This left Hunter in sight of a deserved century but he was finally caught in the deep for a classy 89 runs in the 43rd over and the Hale Barns innings finished on 192 for 6 wickets off the 45 overs.

Ashley's innings got off to a poor start with Mike Berks bowling their Aussie overseas Webb with a beauty in the 4th over and Dave Molloy soon got into his stride with 2 wickets in an opening spell of 9 tight overs. Berks continued to pile on the pressure and took 4 wickets in his 10 overs leaving Ashley's innings in tatters at 42 for 7 off 22 overs. At times Hale Barns had 6 fielders in the slip cordon as they pressed for a quick victory but the 8th wicket partnership started to put some runs on the board and a couple of bowling changes did the trick as the final wickets were taken in quick succession.

Berks took the bowling honours with 4 for 18 off 10 overs as Ashley were bowled out for 92 in the 36th over and Hale Barns won by 100 runs picking up maximum points.
