Robins' defeat to Kidderminster leaves them at foot of table
3:10pm Monday 6th September 2010
Altrincham 1 Kidderminster Harriers 2
Blue Square Bet Premier Saturday September 4
ALTRINCHAM made six changes to the side which had lost heavily the previous Monday. Goalkeeper Stuart Coburn gave way to debutant James Coates and striker James McCarthy, Michael Welch, Robbie Lawton, Anthony Danylyk and Chris Denham all joined the starting line-up.
After starting brightly, with Denham impressing, the first half became a fairly even affair and ended goalless.
Alty also started the second half well but made two changes 10 minutes into the half as Crowell and Welch gave way to Hewson and Joseph.
But it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play after 72 minutes. Alty failed to stop a low cross from the right and substitute Gittings was left with a simple tap-in, just four minutes after he had joined the game.
However, just another four minutes later, Alty's sub Damian Reeves responded by scoring smartly from an acute angle after his first effort had been blocked.
With Alty looking a decent bet to break their winless run, referee Fletcher judged that a fierce shot driven at James Smith and hitting his chest had been deliberately handled by the Alty defender.
Chris McPhee netted the resulting penalty with just 10 minutes remaining.
Alty went close twice through McCarthy and earlier Denham had missed a golden chance.
But the home side was once again unable to score, having netted just the one goal in the past seven and a half hours of football.
Robbie Williams was Alty's man of the match, having defended well and also gone close to scoring for his side.
ALTRINCHAM: Coates; Williams, Smith, Welch, Densmore, Crowell, Danylyk, Lawton (capt), Brown, Denham, McCarthy. Subs: Coburn, Joseph, Reeves, Twiss, Hewson.
