Altrincham Kersal v Liverpool St Helens

11:36am Monday 6th September 2010

Altrincham Kersal 40 Liverpool St Helens 18 ALTRINCHAM Kersal could not have wished for a better start to the new season when they followed their Cheshire Plate 33-13 away win against Wirral last week with this 40-18 home victory over Liverpool St Helens.

Sean Rogers gave Kersal the early lead when he slotted a penalty after 5 mins. Kersal's lead was increased when J.P Singleton went over in the corner for an unconverted try. But LSH were quick to respond. They snapped up a loose ball in midfield and Ian Stanley a try and Greg Smith converted.

But Kersal's came back straight away, they gained possession from the restart. The forwards drove the ball over LSH line and Richard Hutchinson, just returned from university, touched down. A Rogers dropped goal for Kersal was followed by another try by LSH, when Greg Smith got his name on the score sheet again for the 5-pointer but couldn' t add the extra 2 for the conversion..

The half ended with another Kersal try. No.8, Dan Smith broke from a scrum on the visitor's 25, threw an outrageous dummy and crossed the line. Chris Stewart added the extra points. LSH's deficit was reduced early in the second period, when Greg Smith kicked a penalty. But, from then on, they were unable to add any more points. A Kersal penalty goal balanced out that of the visitors and a Dylan O'Grady try from a forward drive further increased the lead. The seal was finally put on the victory and the bonus point gained, when Chris Stewart ran in from the LSH 22 for the fifth try, with Rogers adding the conversion.
