Sale Sharks beat Treviso
5:47pm Tuesday 31st August 2010
SALE SHARKS showed that they are ready for the big Aviva Premiership Rugby kick-off against Newcastle Falcons tomorrow (September 3 at 7.45pm) with this emphatic win against Benetton Treviso.
Referee Pearson had a busy evening, and took just eleven seconds to award his first penalty, which McLean slotted over to put the Italians three ahead.
After a nervy start, Sharks went into a tenth-minute lead following a sweet passing move finished by impressive fullback Paul Williams.
On 21 minutes it should have been a second try when Brady broke clear.
Somehow, the impressive Seymour couldn't ground the ball, but after Miller added a penalty four minutes later, the flanker made amends with a try to take the score to 15-3.
McLean scored a penalty to end the half and Miller added penalties after 44 and 54 minutes.
The game was settled after 64 minutes with a Nick Macleod try, James converting.
Both sides had good moments before the end, with the Sharks showing considerable pace when breaking out of defence.
Even though the last two Fridays were 'friendly' games, this was the first time since last December that Sale Sharks have recorded two successive victories.
Mike Brewer, head coach, said: “We’ve still got some issues to iron out.
“When we tried to force things too early, we made mistakes and it’s something we’ve got to get over very quickly.”
Messenger Man of the Match: Paul Williams.
