A well known salon in Altrincham is at the cutting egde of hair and beauty since it moved to new premises and adopted a more ambient mood to help customers relax.
Rem’s salon, previously based on Manchester Road, now takes up one of the five shop units built into Waitrose in Stamford Brook. And with its move the popular salon has experienced a complete overhaul.
David Polfus, business partner and life partner of Rem Hillback, described the new salon as ‘breathtaking’.
He said: "This is a Wella salon, but not like anything that’s been seen before."
Rem Hillback, 50, has been a hairdresser for 20 years and was the owner of the Manchester Road based salon for nine years. He met David, 57, whilst on holiday and the couple now plan a civil ceremony for November 13.
David, who is from Norway, encourged Rem to take a holistic approach to the whole customer experience. He said: "It is about creating a feeling of wellbeing and an atomsphere of chill."
Customers now enjoy relaxing in garden furniture whilst listening to world music and sipping freshly ground coffee. The installing of a ‘’swinging back wash’’ has meant customers in wheelchairs can remain seated whilst having their hair washed and cut.
According to David the economic recession has had little impact on the business and since moving to new premises the number of clients has doubled. His advice to other small business owners is to ‘’be observant and listen to clients.’’
