Kidnap man jailed for two years
3:00pm Thursday 29th July 2010
A MAN who assaulted a bus driver and attempted to kidnap a teenage girl has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Wythenshawe man Clinton Bogart, 20, of Hannet Road, admitted attempted kidnap, causing actual bodily harm, and common assault, sentenced by a judge at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday.
The court heard at 10.15pm on March 29, the number 19 bus left Altrincham bus station and the two victims, aged 19 and 17, boarded before Bogart got onto the bus on Simonsway in Wythenshawe at about 11pm.
He spoke to another man on the bus before approaching the girls, who were sat together, and asked them for a cigarette.
Bogart continued to harass the girls, asking them where they lived. When they asked him to leave them alone he said: "What you gonna do about it if I don't?"
He then ordered one of the girls, aged 19, off the bus before throwing a punch at her and dragging her down the bus by her hair, shouting: "Stop the bus. She's getting off!"
When the other girl tried to stop Bogart he punched her in the head.
The bus driver challenged Bogart, prompting him to punch him several times.
A number of men boarded the bus from outside the Portway pub and dragged Bogart away.
The bus driver then drove off.
Detective Constable Richard Anderton, said: "Bogart bothered two young girls and when they asked to be left alone he exploded and subjected them to unnecessary violence.
"He then turned his anger on the bus driver who tried to intervene, proving he does not give a second thought to using his fists on innocent people.
"I hope his sentence will act as a wake-up call and make him realise violence is not the answer."
